Thanks to Dot and Andy.

Norman and I would like to extend our very sincere thanks to Dot and Andy for their wonderful donation to the Norman Mann Trust Fund. For their 40th wedding anniversary they requested that instead of gifts, donations be made to the Trust. R18470-00 was raised by donations in lieu of gifts. Thank you all who donated and for the calls, prayers and kind wishes we have received. They all mean so much to us. We realise through acts like these that we are no alone in this and that there are many wonderful and caring people out there.

Thank you, and lots of love,
Norman, Sue, Roland and Hayley.

40th Wedding Anniversary Celebration - Dot and Andy 20th April 2008

Dot and Andy are very kind and have asked that you donate money to the Norman Mann Trust Fund www.normanmanntrust.co.za in lieu of gifts for this occasion.

I would like to tell you about the fund and the reason that it was formed.

Norman went to Japan in June last year and while there went with business associates to a restaurant for dinner, Norman, knowing that he was allergic to shellfish, carried a letter in Japanese and informed the waiter that he had a problem. He ordered stir fry vegetables and noodles. Unfortunately the food was cooked in shellfish contaminated oil and he suffered anaphylactic shock. Allergies can be deadly. His heart stopped beating and he had to be revived. Due to lack of oxygen to the brain, a lot of brain damage occurred. He was hospitalised in Japan for seven weeks before we could bring him home.

Netcare 911 flew him back with a doctor and nursing sister. He was immediately admitted to the Netcare Rehabilitation Centre in Auckland Park. Norman could not see, walk, speak or use his hands. He stayed there for 4 weeks and it was not long before the Medical Aid was exhausted.

Norman is home now but is still undergoing several forms of therapy - Physio, Speech, Occupational, Cranio Sacral and Ozone therapies. Norman is a determined man and has worked hard and improved in the last 8 months. He can walk with assistance, talk haltingly, and to some extent use his hands. His memory is fine and his vocabulary is good. His sight unfortunately has not returned. Neurologists tell us to be patient and not give up hope as in some cases this can take up to 2 years.

An African Anthology - the firm Norman worked for - has started the fund to help the family, as Norman has a wife, Sue and 2 children, Roland age 15 and Hayley 7. This has been a very difficult time for the family. However, through all the trials wonderful people have crossed our path, new friends made and many blessings received.
